2019 New Year's Cards

I usually do not like to make New Year's resolutions, but I do like to make New Year's cards for my friends and family! Based on the huge success of the Mad for Plaid yellow birthday card - I decided to base my New Year's cards on that design since the same folks would not be receiving both cards.

I have stopped purchasing patterned paper, I like to make my own and I recently moved and I had to downsize my paper selection, that stuff is HEAVY to move! Between my mother-in-law an myself, I think we have over 3000 pieces of paper, I don't know - it was a LOT! Anyway, I do have a few small 6x6 paper pads that I decided to pull out to see if anything caught my eye. I only have the retired Stampin' Up! Cupcakes and Carousels and also A Little Foxy. In my limited patterned paper stash I found a few I thought I would try so here it goes...

~Enjoy

For the first card I grabbed the Pool Party & Smoky Slate Chevron paper from the A Little Foxy 6x6 paper pack. My friend Shannon loves teal so I was planning with her in mind. I tried to think of something other than embossing for the left side and came across an old retired Project Life Day to Day stamp set for the months stamped in Bermuda Bay on Pool Party. The sentiment is stamped with the Warm Hearted stamp set stamped in Basic Grey. The '19 is from a really old set, I think it was Stampendous - I have had it for years. Some Silver Glimmer paper and a bow made from retired silver and white ribbon finished the card. The whole thing is then layered on a Whisper White embossed with the Subtle embossing folder and layered on a Basic Black card base. The envelope was stamped with the Stampendous numbers in black and the sparkler from the retired Its a Celebration stamp set stamped in Pool Party & the explosions are from the Night in Bethlehem stamp set stamped in Bermuda Bay.

For the stacked months, I attempted to step-stamp with my Stamparatus, but it was not cooperating, so instead I laid out January, March and May on one side of the platform and flipped it over & laid out February, April & June. I then repeated this for the inside for the remaining months. That was a cool discovery.

Another thing I discovered was that once I had missed some ink on a stamp & stamped it again, this created a darker color on every other month. Not what I was going for, but I didn't mind the effect. This also happened on one of the card fronts, so I just matched those 2 up & then it looks like it was intended!

I also ended up making some from the Cupcakes & Carousels utilizing So Saffron Gold Glimmer paper, Crushed Curry for the months and Soft Suede for the sentiment. For the Teal cards I used Memento Black for the sentiment and Bermuda Bay for both the paper & stamped months.

Here is the inspiration card & the copycats.

Stampin' Up! Convention Swap #3

After completing 200 cards for Stampin' Up's! 30th Convention - I found I had some extra time so decided to make 100 more simple Thanks cards using the Warm Hearted set - I just LOVE this set!!!

I started out with a black, red and white version, but after a few tries decides to go with Cherry Cobbler, Soft Suede and Very Vanilla. I love the results! The background image is stamped with the star clusters form the set, The red is embossed with my second favorite embossing folder, Swirls & Curls (Corrugated is my favorite) and I roughed up the edges of the red & the sentiment with the edge of my scissors. The banner is popped up in the middle and adhered flat on the edges to give some dimension. The rhinestones were colored with a Soft Suede Blends marker and finished off with a gold metallic-edge ribbon bow.

Don't forget to send out those after Christmas Thank you cards!!!!

~Enjoy

Stampin' Up! Convention Swap #1

Cheers to the New Year

Stampin' Up! hosted it's 30th year birthday convention in Orlando in November. It was said that there would be up to 10,000 people there from every corner of the globe, so I just had to make some swaps! Here is the process for the first set of 100.

I always try to not use the most popular item that is trending and create an alternative to the norm. When I made this the Snowflake bundle & Dashing Deer were hot, hot, hot, so I stayed clear of those & decided to use the hostess set instead and create a New Year's card.

I also wanted to use a technique and that's when things got dicey. I used the dandelion stamp for the fireworks and embossed with 3 different colors of embossing powder, shimmery embossing paste and a shaker card! In the end, I stamped the dandelions only in black to cut back on some of the production.

Before I started I photoshopped a quick idea together to know if it would look ok & to order the supplies.

Here is what 100 cards look like in production.

  • Dandelion Wishes Clear-Mount Stamp Set

Paper Pumpkin Alternatives September 2018

Here are some ideas for the September 2018 Paper Pumpkin. I usually do not get the September Paper Pumpkin but glad I did this year - I had such fun converting the supplies for treat bags into cards. The inspiration was everywhere and although about half of these are CASEd to some degree, I had fun creating some alternatives as well. Just when I thought I was done, I came up with another idea. This was such a fun kit!!!!

~Enjoy

My Favorite!

This may have originally started with a spark by Suzanne Netz, but I decided the card needs a little more purple, since I was sending it to my friend who loves purple, and added gorgeous grape corrugated cardstock behind the original artwork as well as some more creepy crawly spideys on the card base. I did not have the spider trinkets, so I borrowed a plastic spider button from my stash.

This is another one of my favorites & I think it may have been an original!

Other Alternatives

The following 5 images are loosely CASEd from Jennifer Sootkoos. I didn't have any of the paper she used, but I did have some leftovers from my June 2018 Paper Pumpkin kit! I think the addition was a great success!

This one was loosely CASEd from Beauty and the Stamper. One thing I did with this card that I really liked was added the gradient coloring of Daffodil Delight to Tangerine Tango with the word stamps. They ended up looking a little like Candy Corn. So cute!!!

This card is pretty much a direct copy from Libby Fens / Libby Stamps, except she used the subtle embossing folder & I used the sequins. But the envelope design is all mine. I used the Warm Hearted Hostess set for the little skull , designer line and starbursts.

This card started off with a spark from Suzanne Netz, but she used white for the shaker card & inked it, where I changed mine into Tangerine Tango and crumpled it. then inked it and jazzed up the banner a bit more. The envelope I think turned out so cute with stamps from the Warm Hearted Hostess set.

Inspired by Karen Calburn, this is almost a direct copy of hers, but I did not have the spider web embossing folder, so I went with the trees. She also backed hers with a patterned purply paper, where I just went with a thin layer of black. I love the coordinating envelope made with moons, stars & bats from the kit.

The next few cards are direct copies from Stampin Pretty, I love her simple and clean designs! I did add the leaves embossing folder to mine though to give it a little more of a pop!

I didn't have the exact purple ribbon she used, so I had to pull out some retired ribbon from my stash.I also added the waves embossing folder to jazz up the background a little more.

This one was copied from someone in the Facebook group - but could not tell you who! I did change it a little from the original design.

Don't forget the insides!

The insides of the cards were almost as fun to make as the outsides. I used a vintage stamp for my Happy Halloween, and I inked the whole surface with Daffodil Delight, then I inked just the top have with Tangerine Tango - I love the candy corn effect it gave the sentiment! Paired with the cute stamps from the kit or the skull, decorated line and starburst from the Warm Hearted Hostess set finished it off perfectly!

One more for the road...

Just when I thought I was done making cards, I decided to use up the little paper inserts for the bottom of the bags as mats and stamp each one with a different Halloween icon in a different color. I shared it with the PP Facebook group and within a few days I saw someone has already CASEd it on Pinterest! I will take that as a compliment! Sentiment, design lines and skulls are from the Warm Hearted Set.
